I recently read an article written by the proprietor of a company that converts vans into mobile grooming salons. The article was to make the case that vans with generators are better than salons without generators because “plug-in” designs can only operate with 10 amp dryers. It also said that some dogs could take up to an hour to dry because of it. The article also said that the average lifespan of a mobile grooming van is 10 to 15 years! (more…)

Generators For Mobile Groomers

Mobile grooming salons are often built with generators. Generators are meant to provide the power needed to run clippers, dryers, etc. The advantage is minimal but the disadvantage is huge. A “plug in” design eliminates the problems that generators produce. With a plug in, there is no vibration, no noise, no maintenance, no addition of weight, and no use of valuable space – not to mention the expense. However, GT does offer them as an option.

“Tongue weight” is a very important item to consider when choosing a mobile grooming trailer. Tongue weight is the weight pushing down on the rear bumper of your car. If the trailer is too heavy, your headlights will resemble “bat signals” or your hitch could actually break off! First, find out what the tongue weight capacity for your truck is in the manual. Then read the label that is printed on the hitch itself to see how much it can hold.

Stainless steel is absolutely the best material to be used in a mobile grooming salon. It’s anticorrosive and as strong as, well, STEEL! I’ve seen companies use materials like plywood, plastic, vinyl, and fiberglass but I cannot figure out why. Here’s a tip: When shopping for a mobile grooming salon, look for stainless steel.
