Mobile Groomers Need to Look Sharp!

July 01, 2009 By: admin Category: Grooming equipment

The Shear Sharpener rocks!

GT Grooming Trailers spent the afternoon with Colorado’s best shear sharpener.  Unlike a lot of mobile sharpeners who simply grind your shears on a rock, Laurie showed us just how important proper technique is.  She adjusts the bumpers, straightens the blades, rounds the blades, etc.  Basically, she can do just about anything!  She’d even be interested in working for other mobile groomers if you’d like to send her shears for sharpening.  Her phone number is 303-564-5266.

Laurie was especially impressed with how we build our grooming trailers because our trailer floors are actually covered with a quarter inch of padded rubber.  Laurie knows very well how a dropped pair of shears can be bent or chipped when they smack against a hard floor, so seeing our pet grooming trailer floor was a real delight for her.  It is nice to be recognized for quality by professionals like Laurie the Shear Sharpener!  We’ll keep you posted when her website is completed!

No More Guessing

pet-wash-trailer-waterWith GT Grooming Trailers, there is no more guessing how much water is left in your 55 gallon fresh water tank.  Even though our enormous tanks can last a typical day, it is nice to be able to SEE how much water is remaining.  All GT grooming trailers are built with a “window” below the bathtub showing precisely how much water is remaining.

Building smart is our niche.  Our tanks are custom built for GT so we can have some of the largest water tanks in the industry.  By using custom tanks, we are able to install our mechanical items in a more efficient manner than the competition–allowing us to provide MORE working space in a smaller overall trailer.

EVERYTHING is thought out.  Instead of using big-box hardware store tubs, we fabricate our own bathing center. The bathing center doesn’t “sit on legs” like the competition because our trailer shells are built EXCLUSIVELY FOR GT and are framed precisely for our bathing center to be bolted into the grooming trailer’s framing.  Again, this allows GT to use the area under the tub more efficiently which provides a much larger work area.

Another SMART Grooming Trailer Feature

GT Grooming Trailers builds all of our grooming trailers with the possibility of our customers wanting to expand their mobile dog grooming empire.  Groomers who hire employees can max out their profits by allowing their grooming trailer to be out on the road seven days a week.  With GT’s grooming caddy, it is EASY for groomer #1 to remove his personal equipment and for groomer #2 to bring her’s in!  Simply pull out the push-pins and the grooming caddy comes off!  Even grooming companies that are one-man outfits find that the GT design allows for easier cleaning.

Grooming Trailers Don't Need 'Tub Ramps'

June 01, 2009 By: admin Category: Grooming Ergonomics, Grooming equipment

grooming-trailers-ramps

The GT Grooming Trailer does not need a ramp to help larger dogs into its stainless steel tub. Many “shop” groomers bring their assumption into the mobile industry, but soon learn that “shop” grooming and “mobile” grooming are two completely different things.

The GT  Grooming Trailer has a hydraulic table that is only about 12 inches from the tub.  GT can build any size table top you want, with ports, rubberized to match your floor, etc.  We can place the tables closer to the tub if lifting larger dogs into the tub is going to be a concern.

Once a large dog is on the table, simply just let the grooming table do the lifting for you!  Once raised, the pet is within stepping distance of the tub.  With GT, there is no hassle of storing a useless ramp (I’ve never known a dog to actually USE a ramp).  EVERYTHING IS EASY with GT!

"No" To Generator, "Yes" to Hawaii

grooming-trailer-hawaiiMy wife, Kim, is the Highlands Ranch mobile groomer.  She’s been gooming for about ten years and saves over $5,000 each year by simply being smart about her grooming trailer.  This strategy won’t work in hotter climates, but here in Colorado it is easy to save over five grand each year by not using a generator on her grooming trailer.

Once the numbers are crunched, it is easy to see how much of a drain a generator really is.  In addition to the initial cost of installing a quality machine, there are expenses such as fuel, oil and filter changes, etc.  In order to keep a warranty, regular services must be maintained.

We’ve been teaching for a few years now that the money saved can pay for a week in Hawaii, and Kim has decided to surprise me with another (much needed) vacation!  No wonder why so many mobile dog groomers look to her for guidance!  Yes, mobile grooming is  a great way  to make a living.

Grooming Trailer Axles

May 12, 2009 By: admin Category: Grooming equipment, Trailer Basics, Watchdog

grooming trailers companyThere is a lot of confusion over axles in the mobile pet grooming industry.  A common myth is that “two axles” on a grooming trailer is better than one.  Well, that depends…

The reason some grooming trailers have two axles is because of weight.  Most axles that are used in the industry can hold up to 3,500 pounds.  So if a grooming trailer conversion company builds large trailers that exceed 3,500 pounds, then a second axle is required by law.  However, if a conversion company is able to build efficiently, then the second axle is not needed–or wanted.

The second axle is not only a waste of money, but is actually a burden for the entrepreneur.  Because larger trailers with two axles cannot turn as easily as single axle trailers, the large mobile wears through tires at a much quicker pace–sometimes needing to change tires yearly instead of every 3 years as in GT’s case.  The reason is because double axle trailers don’t “turn”, they “side-skid.”  Side skidding eats through tire rubber like tissue paper.

A common myth (perpetuated by companies who build only large trailers) is that a tire “blowout” is dangerous with a single axle trailer.  In reality, the trailer simply trails behind the truck safely–no dramatic scene at all.  Actually, most flat tires in the grooming trailer industry occur on double axle trailers!  The reason is because the first tire spits up nails and road debris directly into the second tire.  Next time you hear of a flat tire on a grooming trailer, ask if it was a single or double axle.

Because every detail of the GT grooming trailer is deliberate, the weight of the mobile is planned perfectly for a safe and smooth ride.  Adding a second axle would not only destroy our perfect formula, but would saddle our customers for years to come with unneeded maintenance.

What About Large Dogs?

April 29, 2009 By: admin Category: Grooming Ergonomics, Grooming equipment

YES!  The GT is designed to accommodate large dogs too.  Our tub is plenty strong, our table is plenty strong, and we install restraint eyelets for all sizes of dogs.  The table is hydraulic, so it lowers to about one foot off of the ground.  So, if a dog is too heavy for you to lift, simply let the table do the lifting for you!  Once raised, the table is only about one foot (customizable) away from the tub so even the most difficult dog can easily be put into the tub.  We are working on a video to show this, so keep checking back.

Don't Freeze Up!

GT Grooming Salons prides ourselves on our “all-weather” grooming trailers.  Even today, dogs were being groomed all over Denver in 5 degree weather!  Having a trailer that DOES NOT FREEZE up over night is critical in keeping customers happy because the last thing they want to hear is their mobile groomer saying they won’t be able to make the appointment. Mobile Grooming Tubs

April 03, 2008 By: admin Category: Grooming equipment, Watchdog

There are about 16 different grooming trailer conversion companies; only a couple build their tubs correctly.

A VERY COMMON practice that low quality grooming trailer companies do is try to convince the public that they ARE quality by advertising a “stainless steel” tub–BE CAREFUL.

LOOK CAREFULLY at the below closeup of a competitor’s $30,000 grooming trailer’s tub (built by Ambers Mobile Pet Salons tm). Yes, it IS stainless steel, but look at how it is (more…)

New GT Grooming Trailer Features

New features are included with EVERY GT Grooming Trailer! Notice the steel faucet in the tub! All GT plumbing is hard-plumbed and of the highest quality. Also, notice the “dotted panel” on the right side of the bathing center. This allows warm air to pass through to the mechanical compartment so there is no (more…)
