How To Build a LOW QUALITY, CHEAP Grooming Trailer.

February 26, 2010 By: admin Category: Trailer Basics

GT Grooming Trailers aren’t the cheapest, they’re just the best!

While most grooming trailer conversion companies built their niche as selling the “cheapest” grooming trailers, we built our reputation by providing the best built trailers on the market.  There are some things that the cheap conversion companies practice to ensure having the lowest quality mobile salons.  Some are:

1. Don’t include needed items such as trailer brakes.

2. Include a “stainless steel” tub that LOOKS like quality, but is actually very thin, flimsy, needs calk to keep watertight, and will ultimately fail.

3. Install a cheap “apartment window” air conditioner instead of a quality unit designed for the application.

4. Use cheap cargo cam-locking doors instead of RV style doors.

5. Advertise “waterproof” vinyl floors but fail to describe how they are not waterproof where it matters; along the walls.  While GT spends about $1,000 waterproofing the floors, low quality grooming trailers have virtualy no protection over the subfloor.

6. Use an electric water heater (or no water heater) instead of a propane water heater.

7. Install a “portable” generator instead of a quality RV or commercial generator designed (and warranted) for a mobile application.

8. Use “big box hardware store” cabinetry that will brake, mildew, and rot in a mobile grooming environment.

9. Include low quality items such as small water tanks, “price point” trailer shells from corner lots, or inferior plumbing components.

10.  ”Frame” the tub and cabinets with wood or other unprotected materials.

This list was too easy, and just scrapes the surface!

Grooming Trailer Design 101

This is a picture of a pet grooming trailer we completed just a couple days ago.  When Jerry came out to pick it up, he was really excited to see that the GT grooming trailer is even more spacious and well-designed than he expected!

One feature that Jerry noticed is how GT keeps the doorway clear from cabinets and other clutter (see grooming trailers floorplan for example).  It’s true, our cabinets and storage areas in the front of our salons are built to effeciently store  all your needed equipment yet still allow easy access to through our custom-made 26″ door.

How can we do this?  GT fabricates all our stainless steel features–we DON’T simply screw big box hardware store wooden cabinets to the floor which rot, wobble apart, and yes–stick out in front of the door.

Grooming Trailer Axles

May 12, 2009 By: admin Category: Grooming equipment, Trailer Basics, Watchdog

grooming trailers companyThere is a lot of confusion over axles in the mobile pet grooming industry.  A common myth is that “two axles” on a grooming trailer is better than one.  Well, that depends…

The reason some grooming trailers have two axles is because of weight.  Most axles that are used in the industry can hold up to 3,500 pounds.  So if a grooming trailer conversion company builds large trailers that exceed 3,500 pounds, then a second axle is required by law.  However, if a conversion company is able to build efficiently, then the second axle is not needed–or wanted.

The second axle is not only a waste of money, but is actually a burden for the entrepreneur.  Because larger trailers with two axles cannot turn as easily as single axle trailers, the large mobile wears through tires at a much quicker pace–sometimes needing to change tires yearly instead of every 3 years as in GT’s case.  The reason is because double axle trailers don’t “turn”, they “side-skid.”  Side skidding eats through tire rubber like tissue paper.

A common myth (perpetuated by companies who build only large trailers) is that a tire “blowout” is dangerous with a single axle trailer.  In reality, the trailer simply trails behind the truck safely–no dramatic scene at all.  Actually, most flat tires in the grooming trailer industry occur on double axle trailers!  The reason is because the first tire spits up nails and road debris directly into the second tire.  Next time you hear of a flat tire on a grooming trailer, ask if it was a single or double axle.

Because every detail of the GT grooming trailer is deliberate, the weight of the mobile is planned perfectly for a safe and smooth ride.  Adding a second axle would not only destroy our perfect formula, but would saddle our customers for years to come with unneeded maintenance.

Another GT Difference…

A common problem that we’ve seen with cheaper quality grooming trailers is “how” they begin to fall apart.   A recent complaint about a cheaper grooming trailer was posted on an Internet social site and is typical of what we see in the industry.  The groomer explained how the “partition” in the trailer was separating.  GT doesn’t build “partitions” for several reasons, but the partition was separating from the walls because the conversion company did not do what was needed to ensure a sturdy structure.

First of All, GT grooming trailers CANNOT have this kind of problem because our trailer shells are built unlike all other companies.  But most trailers, (more…)

Don't Freeze Up!

January 26, 2009 By: admin Category: Grooming equipment, Trailer Basics

GT Grooming Salons prides ourselves on our “all-weather” grooming trailers.  Even today, dogs were being groomed all over Denver in 5 degree weather!  Having a trailer that DOES NOT FREEZE up over night is critical in keeping customers happy because the last thing they want to hear is their mobile groomer saying they won’t be able to make the appointment. Pet Washing Franchises HELP REAL Entrepreneurs

mobile grooming-bathsThe popularity of pet washing franchises is actually  HELPING independent business owners.  Because most mobile grooming franchises insist on using “budget” equipment including the dreaded “hydro-system” gimmick, groomers who care about quality can offer a service that the franchises can only dream of offering. FLOOR SPACE : More GT Efficiency

January 30, 2008 By: admin Category: Grooming Ergonomics, Trailer Basics

The GT Grooming Trailer is STILL in a class by itself. Our standard 5 by 8 foot model has 5 feet of floorspace between the bathing center and the front storage–That’s 6 FEET OF SPACE from the tub to the front wall!

A competitor’s 6 by 12 foot model (TWICE the size of a GT) only has 6 feet of space between the bathing center and the front cabinets.

In other words, they had to almost DOUBLE the size of trailer to gain only 1 extra foot of workspace! (more…)

Apples and Oranges

GT is in a class by itself. Yes, we encourage entrepreneurs to shop for a mobile grooming trailer that best suits their needs, but the GT is built like no other.

The picture on the left is my own motorcycle (I’m Patrick, not Kim). It’s a lot of fun, purpose built, and reliable. The motorcycle on the right reminds me of how some other mobile grooming trailers are built.

I spent some time today browsing our “competition’s” websites and a theme seemed to have appeared: The use of BARE WOOD in their construction. GT goes further than everyone else in this industry to (more…)

GT Makes It Look Easy!

GT Grooming Trailers makes it look easy! We think it’s now 5 companies that have tried to clone the 5′ x 8′ GT Grooming trailer. It’s really not that difficult if one chooses NOT to cut corners. Some have gone out of business, some are still trying. (more…)

Intelligent Design For Mobile Groomers

August 28, 2007 By: admin Category: Grooming Ergonomics, Grooming equipment, Trailer Basics

Intelligent design is becoming rare in the mobile grooming conversion industry. Most conversion companies are lazy and force their customers to use a design that is more suited for storing groceries. (more…)
