Mobile grooming generators can be a confusing topic for some groomers. That’s because a lot is discussed on popular Internet social sites but real information is rarely brought up. For example, a prudent consumer conducting research has recently asked for opinions concerning the generator that GT uses and the following responses had little to do with the question–mostly fragmented thoughts about a different brand.
Therefore, here are some thoughts to consider about generators: (more…)

The GT Grooming Trailer design has some great green aspects. In addition to an optional green exterior or interior floor, GT installs the smartest equipment.
Our optional Onan generator runs on propane, not gasoline. Propane generators have cleaner emissions and also don’t have the obnoxious fumes that those of you with gasoline generators are familiar with. Also, (more…)

Substance, once again, beats fluff.
Wag’n Tails is really the only respected GIANT in the mobile grooming VAN industry. GT is big for trailers, but WGT really is the authority for grooming vans. (more…)

Wag’nTails* was the catalyst for the mobile grooming industry’s explosion and today are considered to be the gold standard for customer service. True innovation has been advanced by honest companies like MDC Romani, Inc with their Clipper Vac® but then the grooming industry began to stagnate. (more…)

GT is looking out for you! Make sure to look at the BIG picture when considering grooming van mileage. A trend is developing that advertises the Sprinter mileage as a selling point. The big picture, though, needs to take into account that some of the Sprinter designs on the market can only operate the AC when the engine is running. Therefore, the REAL MILEAGE of the grooming van is much less than may be advertised. Not only will the gas bill skyrocket, consider what an additional 40 hours per week of engine wear and tear will cost you. Then ask yourself, “Why would a company advertise the mileage when they know that normal van operation would distort the data so drastically?”

With summer around the corner, the inevitable topic of “heat” is going to be on all mobile dog groomers’ minds. A great advantage of grooming in a GT Grooming Trailer over some vans is how the subject of heat is dealt with. Our grooming trailer has an insulated ceiling and the roof is made with reflective aluminum. What this means is that the sun won’t heat up the inside of your trailer as much as if it were a van that has a white painted steel roof. Some vans insulate the ceiling but do so at a tremendous sacrifice. Our previous post mentioned the low head clearance that some vans have, so insulating those ceilings actually increases that problem. With the GT Grooming Trailer, neither of these important design issues are sacrificed.

You SHOULD be suspicious if a grooming van or trailer conversion company will not advertise how much head clearance you will have. Information like that is most important for your grooming enjoyment. If a company does not advertise how much interior space there is, ask them to give it to you. In some cases, the answer may keep you from asking any further questions.

Sprinters are becoming popular to convert into grooming vans for many reasons but are pricey to get into. The GT Grooming Trailer interior is only about 5.6 inches thinner than a Sprinter and about 7% smaller in square footage. Putting only the best products into a tighter package is a new philosophy in the mobile grooming industry and GT is leading the way.

It is important to note that most used mobile grooming salons for sale are less than two years old. It is also important to note that most of those salons are expensive vans. The reason for this is because the entrepreneur’s business failed and she could not keep up with the van payments. The vehicle that the mobile grooming entrepreneur chooses is one of the largest business decision she’ll make! When the time comes for you to make this decision, choose a vehicle that realistically fits your budget. If your payments are $1,000 then understand that you will need to groom 20 dogs at $50 every month just to make the payment. Remember, when you first start out you will probably have no clients but that payment is still going to be due. Be careful not to saddle yourself into payments that could actually be profits, if only your vehicle was a little bit less expensive!

I recently read an article written by the proprietor of a company that converts vans into mobile grooming salons. The article was to make the case that vans with generators are better than salons without generators because “plug-in” designs can only operate with 10 amp dryers. It also said that some dogs could take up to an hour to dry because of it. The article also said that the average lifespan of a mobile grooming van is 10 to 15 years! (more…)
